History

Following a directive from the national PGA, discussions took place regarding the formation of a county association. After several preliminary meetings the very first Derbyshire PGA committee meeting was convened at Chevin Golf Club on Monday 16th November 1992. The first item of business was to decide the structure of the committee and elect the officers.

The formal nominations and elected officers were :

Chairman M. Ronan
Secretary F. McCabe
Captain W. Bird
Vice Captain N. Hallam
Committee J. Hetherington
  M. Deeley
  P. Wilson
  A.   Smith

A following meeting was held at Chevin Golf Club on December 11th 1992 and it was agreed that the seven elected committee members would each deposit £50 to a newly opened bank account as a working capital. Nev Hallam designed the current logo and this was adopted as the association marque.

The PGA and Derbyshire PGA Club Professionals were notified of the formation of the county PGA and a letter was distributed (dated February 5th 1993 ) to all qualifying Professionals advising them of the committee’s intentions and a request for an annual subscription.

The association has worked resolutely to develop the role of the PGA member and has introduced an extensive tournament diary.
